Social Media Marketing 101. For real.
Hey there! I’m Kim, Company B’s newest social media marketing intern, and I’m very pleased to meet you! One week ago today, I graduated with a B.A. in journalism from SUNY Purchase.
Please stop asking me what exactly I want to do with my life, I’m 22 and I’m allowed to not know just yet.
But Bonnie and her team at Company B have welcomed me with open arms and a whole lot of excitement, so my first full week has been GREAT. I’ve been participating in client calls and engaging in the research tactics that go into providing a brand with what they need to tell their story, which is a brand marketing company’s main goal. And let me tell you, I’ve already gained a lot of insight as to what I don’t know and what I need to know.
You remember when you read the first Harry Potter book? Think waaay back. You explored the wizarding world with Harry and thought to yourself, I’m not sure what all this is, but it’s definitely a page-turner! For me, Company B is still in that page-turning stage. I don’t quite know yet to do with all the information I’m garnering, and it feels like every hour there’s something new to add to one of my lists; my “To Do” list, my “Learn It” list, my “Ask Someone About This” list, my “This Will Probably Eventually Be Useful” list. I have a list of lists.
But I know that one day soon, I will be putting this information together until it feels like common knowledge, implementing it as if it’s second nature, and screaming at Harry, “YOUR WAND IS THE ELDER WAND! YOU TOOK IT FROM MALFOY, WHO TOOK IT FROM DUMBLEDORE! DON’T YOU SEE?! JUST KILL HIM, ALREADY!”…uhm, spoiler alert. Listen, the books are way better than the movies, just read them.
Anyway. I’m going to take some time every week to tell you a little bit about what Company B is up to, my hands-on experience here, and how interning with this progressive and hardworking team is influencing me on my journey toward my career in social media marketing – which, in case you were wondering, is what I want to do with my life.
